A great time was had my all! Andy Carberry drove down from Connecticut and met me in Charlotte and we drove the rest of the way Friday evening. Got into a hotel where we ran into John. Went over to Christy's grandma's house and hung out for the evening. Saturday was a blast! Speed Zone was great. Lots of games and I loved the different go-karts (once I finally got some people to race me!). What a blast!! Had an awesome time on the highway going to and from the Ferarri dealer. It's so much fun blazing around with a bunch of other 3S's. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and check out other folks pages from the Atlanta Gathering from the links on Gatherings Page. |
The 2nd Atlanta 3000gt/Stealth Gathering will be held on March 6, 1999 at the Atlanta SpeedZone in Kennesaw, GA. A buffet will be served in the Gathering headquarters. The cost of attending will be approximately $10/person which covers the buffet.
I've already lined up several event sponsors including Unorthodox Racing. We should have door prizes from various sponsors. Come and enjoy the company of other 3SI people in beautiful Atlanta (where it is currently 65F and sunny).
We will have our own dedicated parking lot for displaying our cars. In addition, we will have a room inside for other displays, face stuffing, and hanging out if it rains. At the end of the day it is time for caravan cruising to the dinner location of our choosing.
Some of the things to do at Speedzone:
1. Drag racing in 300hp dragsters $10/3 runs
2. Scale Formula-1 racing $3/lap $1.50/additional lap
3. Turbo cart racing $5/5minutes (I think)
4. Slick track racing (slick tires, polished concrete track) also $5/5minutes (I think)
5. Video games
6. Food
This is not a kiddy place. After 9pm they won't even let you in if you are under 18.

At the moment we are expecting about 40 cars. This is going to be an event you don't want to miss. If you even think you might be going but haven't yet e-mailed me your information please do so immediately. The folks at SpeedZone need to know home many people will be there so we can have enough food and get a room of the appropriate size.
Here is an approximate schedule:
10:00 Arrive at SpeedZone and Park
10:00 - 12:00 Open discussions, pictures, etc.
12:00 - 13:00 Parham's ticket avoidance talk over lunch
13:00 - 16:00 Formation cruising to Ferrari of Atlanta
16:00 Back at SpeedZone
16:00 - 18:00 At SpeedZone riding, talking, whatever you wish
18:00 Leave for a formation cruise to dinner
I've spoken to several hotels all of which are located on the same street as SpeedZone (Busbee). For those of you unfamiliar with this area of greater Atlanta: Busbee runs between Barrett Parkway(I-75 exit 116) and Chastain (I-75 exit 117). There is huge mall on the corner of Barrett and Busbee. Barrett is generally a big commercial street complete with a Mitsu dealer down the road.
StudioPlus $54/night (770)425-6101
Shoney's $62/night (770)499-9200 (free breakfast)
Fairfield $69/night (770)427-9700
Holiday Inn Express $72/night (770)427-5210
If it were me I'd go for the Shoney's as it is across the street from the mall and pretty decent.
Added 3/4/99 - Last update before the Gathering!!!
If any of you plan to be in Friday night and are looking for something to do you might wish to go to Ed's Gun and Tackle and pop off a few rounds. He rents guns for $10/visit so you can rent about anything there. The range fee is $6 for the first half hour and $4/additional half hour per lane. There is a $2.50/half hour charge for additional shooters in the lane. Eye and ear protection rental are each $1/visit.
Ed's is on the corner of Piedmont and Canton Highway (Highway 5). To get there from I-75 go East on Barrett Parkway, exit 116 for a couple of miles till Barrett becomes Piedmont. When you get to Highway 5/Canton Highway turn right. There will be an Eckerd Drugs on your right at the corner. Ed's is in a shopping center half a block ahead on your right.
If you want the best price on ammo and know what caliber you are going to rent beforehand buy your ammo at Sports Authority. Again from I-75 take the Barrett Pkwy exit, but go West. Take a right at the first light and you'll see Sports Authority behind a TGI Fridays.
I'll try to be there around 7:30pm. Note, that is not an official activity and I'm not forcing anyone to go. You go at your own risk (sorry, my lawyer makes me say that).
If anyone is interested in hooking up for dinner beforehand e-mail me. If you need to get in touch with me my numbers are: (770)795-4588, work; (770)975-8861, home, and (770)310-4757, mobile.
See ya'll there, Phil
Other comments from Parham Sabetazm: This is very important, for anyone attending: SIDE NOTE: If anyone has any old radar detectors, CB radios, HAM radios, or anything related to this subject of "ticket avoidance," I collect these kinds of things, especially radar detectors. So if you want something off your hands, or out of your garage, I'll be glad to take it. Thanks Any questions, please email me privately... |
